CSSI Inc. Captures 60 Percent Market Share of DRVSM Aircraft Monitoring Work

Cost, Experience, and Responsiveness Cited as Primary Reasons for Increase

Washington, DC -- CSSI, Inc., a Washington, DC-based engineering and technical services company focused on transportation, has become the dominant provider of monitoring services for airlines, corporations and individuals seeking to certify their aircraft to meet domestic reduced vertical separation minimum (DRVSM) standards.

With recent gains in market share, the company now handles 60 percent of all such monitoring work done in the United States, Bob Miller, Director of CSSI's Airspace Analysis and Modeling business area, announced today.

By January 20, 2005, the FAA will require all aircraft -large transport and small commercial and general aviation aircraft- wanting to fly between 29,000 and 41,000 feet to obtain DRVSM certification. The program ensures that these aircraft have installed avionics equipment that can maintain altitude to within +/- 65 feet.

A key component of DRVSM implementation is monitoring the height-keeping performance of aircraft that have been approved for DRVSM operations. This supports the safety assessment and oversight function required with DRVSM implementation.

Miller listed three reasons for CSSI's emergence as the industry leader in DRVSM monitoring. "The CSSI staff has the most experience, CSSI is highly responsive to each and every customer, and CSSI provides the service at a significantly lower cost than the competition," he said.

CSSI has worked for years on international RVSM projects, providing RVSM services in the Asia-Pacific region, in the South China Sea, in the Middle East, in Australia, and - most recently - in Canada. The CSSI team has monitored more than 2,000 flights worldwide.

DRVSM monitoring is done by CSSI technicians, who use an FAA-developed portable GPS-Based Monitoring Unit (GMU) to conduct the necessary tests during scheduled flights or special test flights in all geographic areas.
