As a partner to the FAA ATO-P system engineering group, CSSI applied a genetic algorithm (using OPGEN software) that generates a four-dimensional (4D) trajectory (flight route) that minimizes fuel consumption subject to desired time-of-flight, aircraft performance, and operational constraints such as Special Use Airspace (SUA).
OPGEN has been a critical tool in many other studies, including Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) studies and modeling of flight restrictions (such as altitude constraints).
