Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) - Header Graphic

RVSM saves fuel and increases the number of flight levels between 29,000 and 41,000 feet. However, before commercial and private aircraft can operate in RVSM airspace, international and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards require a height monitoring flight to verify that an aircraft’s altitude-keeping systems are compliant with RVSM requirements. A height monitoring flight is required every two years to maintain RVSM approval.

RVSM provides enhanced airspace capacity and additional operational benefits to air traffic service providers and airspace users. CSSI, Inc. has played a major role in RVSM implementation around the world.

RVSM has been implemented in:

  North Atlantic
  Pacific
  Europe
  Europe to South America Routes
  South China Sea
  Australia
  North America
   (U.S., Canada and Mexico)
  Middle East
  South-East Asia to Europe Routes
  Caribbean and South America
  Japan and Korea
  China
  Africa

World Map

RVSM is planned for:

  Eastern Europe and Russia
  Iraq
  Afghanistan

The key elements of RVSM Implementation are:

  The safety of the airspace
The readiness of the air traffic service providers
  The readiness of aircraft operators

CSSI experts have worked with aviation authorities on all three key elements of RVSM including the aircraft monitoring with the GPS-based Monitoring Unit.
