Experience and Case Studies

CSSI has worked extensively with the FAA and other organizations to plan, implement, and maintain safety management activities.

Landmark FAA Projects

CSSI developed the Air Traffic Safety Action Program for the FAA Air Traffic Organization (ATO)— a program used by more than 20,000 air traffic controllers to report real and potential safety issues.

With over 80,000 reports, the FAA ATP’s ATSAP program is the largest aviation VSRP program in the world. CSSI developed hardware, software, data storage and data mining capabilities for the initiative’s ATSAP/T-SAP and Federal Contract Tower programs. CSSI also worked with systems analysts, safety experts, air traffic controllers and technicians to develop causal and contributory taxonomies.

Safety Risk Management Panels

CSSI has worked with the FAA to facilitate SRMPs for proposed airspace changes, airborne separation standards and the implementation of surveillance systems and other new equipment.

In a collaborative effort between CSSI and National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), and the FAA management we designed a tool to facilitate the development of timely, lasting local solutions to local safety issues.

CSSI has also helped the ATC Handbook Steering Committee— an amalgamation of subgroups from NATCA, FAA management and the aerospace industry—develop Safety Risk Management documentation and a stakeholder report for a revision to air traffic control and air traffic flow procedures—an important NextGEN strategic goal.
